    The Injury Prevention Program is involved with the local community and schools.

The Health Fair is held annually to educate the community in various areas.

Seatbelt Safety is one of the many areas that are taken to the schools to educate the youth
.

Eligibility Requirements:  Members of a federally recognized tribe living on the Lake Traverse Reservation

 

Service Description:  Develops strategies for the prevention of motor vehicle crash related fatalities and
injuries in young adults by implementing the “4 E’s”: education, enforcement, engineering, and environment to
address causal factors of driving under the influence of alcohol and other substances, speed, and failing to properly
use occupant restraints (seat belt & child safety seats.)  The program works closely with the Sisseton-Wahpeton
Law Enforcement in conducting monthly checkpoints around the reservation. 
The program partnered with Codington County MADD Chapter to host monthly Victim Impact Panel (VIP). 
VIP is a sentencing alternative for first time DUI offenders sentenced from tribal court.
